Hardware
What WolOS knows about your computer.
One catalogue of 80 device families decides the driver, firmware and packages for each part of your computer, at every start.
- What
- At every start WolOS reads the computer's parts, finds each in its catalogue and loads the modules it needs; on the first start with a network it installs missing driver packages. wol hw lists every device with its driver and state.
- Why
- One table, not scripts scattered over the system: a part either has a row, and then the same rules apply at boot, in Settings and on the command line, or it is said to be unknown.
- How
- Each row matches a maker, a range of device ids and a device class, and the most specific row wins. A device without a row is listed with the driver the kernel gave it, or as unsupported when it has none.
The catalogue
Every row, read from the source the system itself uses. A row with no device range catches the rest of that maker's parts of that kind.

Hardware reports
A hardware report is what this page needs from one computer: which models it has and how WolOS drives them. Per device it keeps the kind, the maker and device id, the catalogue's name for it, the driver and its state.
It leaves out anything that tells one computer or person from another: where a device sits on the bus, the names devices give themselves (a USB device can carry its owner's name or a serial number), and any package the catalogue does not name.
